Hi! This is the Brisbane post - Enjoy!
We arrived after our 7 hour flight. The best thing about all this travelling is watching the films during the flights. I watched two in 7 hours - not too bad!
We arrived at 1.30am and had already decided to not bother with a hostel that night, seen as by the time you get there and sorted it's not worth what you pay! We had a plan to sleep in the airport and we hoped it worked!!
We collected our bags and came out into the arrivals bit and looked for a comfy place to rest our heads. It was 2am and we had signed into the free wifi and told family we had arrived safe. Rach slept whilst I texted a few friends and skyped one of my best friends for a natter - 3am in Oz but 6pm in England the day before (strange!!).
We were all ok - no one said anything. I had my reading material to send me to sleep!!
It was interesting seeing how slowly but surely it went to only me and rach to a full hall of arrivals and families meeting people. Then the coffee shop opened and we had to vacate our comfy sofa/bed!
We got the metro to the hostel and checked in. We were too early to go to our rooms so we left our bags and had a free breakfast at the hostel - bonus! I really wanted sleep though - felt like a zombie!
We thought we would blow the cobwebs away and go for a walk around. We went on a 2 hour hike around!! It was lovely though. Everyone is so fitness forward here - people running, cycling, power walking. We saw people rock climbing and enjoying a exercise class outdoors. People were enjoying a BBQ!! It really was lovely to see places where you could do these things. There were drinking water fountains dotted around too! It was a lovely sunny day so we were making use of them!
We entered the Botanic Gardens and my highlight was this bench!!!
I have never experienced being homeless before but the bench was quite comfy! :)
After a bit of shut eye we headed back the City way. Taking in all the tall buildings and Brisbane treats!
We went out for dinner with some girls from our dorm which was lovely. Then it was an earlyish night ready for a big day tomorrow!!
Day Two
We set off for Lone Pine Sanctuary and stopped off on the way at a view point. It was stunning! Seeing the whole of Brisbane City and beyond. It was a beautiful sunny day too which topped the views off nicely!!
We arrived at Lone Pine and were so excited about holding a Koala and seeing some Kangaroos!
We held one almost straight away we were that keen :)
They are quite a bit heavier than expected but soooo sweet!! It was a dream come true!
Next was were the roo's!!
We bought some roo food for a little treat for posing for our pictures!
Home time!
We treated ourselves to a Nando's. I lost my Nando's virginity in Brisbane!
Day Three
We had our first Greyhound Bus rides of many today! It was very surprising. So comfy and spacious plus FREE WIFI! We have being struggling with the wifi here because a lot of places don't have it or you have to PAY! Nando's had it but only for staff only - never heard that one before?!
We arrived and saw lots of animals! Like you would in a zoo ha ha!
We enjoyed the main animal show but it was sooo strange without Steve Irwin. Seeing him doing a show would of been fabulous!! His family did a brilliant job though and we thoroughly enjoyed it!! They played a montage of clips of Steve Irwin at the end of the show which was lovely.
The zoo is wonderful. You get chance to touch and hold some of the animals when you are walking around which is lovely.
We decided eating out in Australia every night is going to be expensive so we cooked our own dinner tonight and it was yummy!
Day Four
Hi Nat and Rach, lovely to hear from you as usual. Photos are fab! Enjoy Surfers, Gina stayed there a while, she loved it. How long are you staying in Surfers for? Don't get sun burnt, remember the slap!! Lots of love Jxxx
